HiPIMS tribological coatings now available for forming tools
HiPIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) is the next step in Sputter technology, combining all the advantages of the common coating technologies and methods currently on the market.
HiPIMS utilizes very short, highly energetic pulses to generate a high-density plasma. It results in very high degree of ionization of the coating material in the plasma and benefits in extreme smoothness, density, and uniformity of the produced coating. High hardness remains, the toughness is enhanced.
As most of the tribological coatings, also the HiPIMS technology has been originally developed for cutting tools and now for over a decade very successfully commercially applied. CemeCon has now further developed and adapted HiPIMS coatings for punching and forming tools.
